Property, land really, was abundant when the white man arrived. There was no new houses to buy or move into. Just land to settle. Promise land. And settlers did just that. Now condos, town homes, hew homes, agents, appraisers and realtors help pilgrims of all sorts find their dream home.

This is the end of the Oregon Trail. A very long journey for anyone man or beast. Particularly for women. There were no Remax, Coldwell Banker, builders or any construction at all. Men had to provide for dwellings and crops and the income from those crops. Women on the other hand may have had the worst of it. They were in charge of the "family". Do not get ill or have any kind of "malady" in the early days. The treatment was awful. So much for the "less than pleasant" part of coming here.

Today, Oregon is a rapid growing state, up 26% in the last 10 years primarily because of industry and property costs. Housing costs had been low and with low interest rates very affordable. Between 1990 and 2001, the state's population grew from 2,860,375 people to 3,471,700. This represents a 1.8 percent compound annual rate of growth, almost double the national growth rate. Roughly 70 percent of this growth came from people moving into the state. Oregon's rich natural resources fueled the state's economy for a long time. In recent years, high technology has assumed the role previously played by forest products, but forests, farms and ranches, retail trade, and tourism are significant elements of the state's economic profile.
